A Panic-Free Guide to Staying Healthy During COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

It’s all anyone can talk about right now, and for good reason. It’s a global pandemic! But before you freakout and retreat to a bomb shelter full of hand-sanitizer, here’s a few tips to keep your self, family, and neighbors healthy during this crisis without the panic.

Wash Your Hands

We know, everyone is saying this. But it’s the most important way to stop the virus. And no this doesn’t mean just when you use the bathroom. Wash your hands a lot. At least 3-4 times a day, and if you’re in public areas, once an hour. Honestly, it’s just a good habit.

The World Health Organization recommends washing your hands for a full 20 seconds each time. An easy way to get to the full 20 seconds? Sing your ABC’s! (This is great for kids too.) Or you can be like the cool kids and sing this upbeat viral Vietnamese Coronavirus hand-washing jam that’s more delightfully infectious than the virus itself.

Stay Home and avoid crowds

The best way to stop this virus spread is to stay home. The truth is, if everyone stayed home for 3 weeks, this whole virus would be gone. So, we know it’s not ideal and kinda boring… but stay home as much as you can.

We know not every job is able to be a “work from home” job, but if you can definitely stay home especially if you’re sick. Use your sick days, vacation time, or work with your employer on ways to compromise on staying home or working in isolation. It might be a hard few weeks, but it’s worth it.

The virus can survive in the air for over 24 hours and on surfaces for up to three days, so if you do have to continue to work in shared spaces, keep disinfecting, wearing gloves, and see if your employer can invest in masks.

Keep A Cool Distance

Remember it’s not just about working at home and then letting everything else slide. Going out to Starbucks, schools, restaurants, gyms, salons, even can be germ-filled. If you need to go, don’t panic!

Try to keep a distance from others of about 3 feet, don’t touch commonly used surfaces like counters, and use your elbow to open doors. Items like your phone and passed-around credit cards can get a simple wipe from a disinfectant towelette and you’re good to go!

Remember, a positive attitude is super important! Everyone’s a little on edge. Smile! If someone is coughing, keep your distance, but be kind.

Don’t go TO the doctors, call your doctors

Sick waiting rooms are always a breeding ground of bacteria, during this crisis, it’s really not a good idea. Most health providers nowadays have online appointments and phone calls where you can do a lot of the boring stuff from the comfort of your couch, and during a pandemic, that’s just what the doctor ordered.

When it comes to Coronavirus, the national health association is asking that you don’t just show up at health facilities. Give them a chance to hear your symptoms and ask you questions over the phone; they can give you some answers without putting you or anyone else at risk. If they do suspect something, they can make an appointment for you with limited contact to the public. No waiting! Sounds like a win win!

Do Things You LOVE

As humans we tend to focus on the negative and think of all the things we can’t do. But flip that script! It’s time to give yourself a much needed break and dig into some things you love. This is a great time to catch up on some series you’ve been meaning to watch, read some books, take a bubble bath, do some gardening, learn a language, or play with your kids! Modern life is hectic so it’s time to look on the bright-side. The universe is giving you a reason to slow down, take a breath and enjoy some quiet time.

Keep Your Body Healthy

While it may be time to give in to rest and relaxation, it’s not the time to give up on your diet, health, and wellness. In fact, it’s never been more important to keep your immunity UP.

But how to you eat well while avoiding grocery stores, markets, and crowds? Ahem… hello! Hi. We’ve got a convenient solution. How about we do all the cooking and deliver your daily food to your doorstep each morning? That’s kinda what we do best.

Our Commitment to Health

At MacroPlate, the health and safety of our members, team, and community is our top priority. We are continuously reviewing updates from the Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as federal, state, and local agencies to confirm that our actions are aligned with the most recent CDC recommendations. It is important to note that based on the information we have been provided, “there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food.”

We uphold rigorous cleaning and sanitation requirements within our kitchen in Torrance, California. All of our team members are ServSafe® certified and fully trained to ensure proper maintenance of hygiene and food preparation practices, wearing disposable gloves and protective equipment to eliminate any possibility of contamination. Hand washing stations are present throughout our facility, with sanitizer stations present at the entrance and exits to the building. All cooler bags and gel packs are properly sanitized prior to reuse.

As we do not operate a retail storefront and do not work with UberEats, Postmates, or similar delivery services, our facility, team members, and meals do not come in into contact with anyone other than our trained team before being packaged and sealed. This is advantageous in many aspects and ensures that outside elements are not being introduced into our establishment.

Don’t Panic

With good healthy food, staying home, washing your hands, and taking mild precautions… you’re gonna be just fine! Remember to stay positive, be kind to people, do things you love, and give everyone a little space.

We’ll see you Monday morning with your meals!
